We are so glad that you have found our website. We hope you will find this site both informative and helpful. This site is maintained not only for our members, but especially for people new to the area that are looking for a church home. If you happen to be one of those people let me tell you a few things about the church here at Millington.
We are a group of imperfect people seeking to be just Christians. We believe that all the Bible calls us to be is a Christian, nothing more, and nothing less. In a religious world that seems more confused than ever, I find it refreshing to follow the path of simple New Testament Christianity. We do not use the term “Church of Christ” as a name, but rather as recognition that the church belongs to Christ and is not the creation of man (Matt. 16:18).
- We love people. Here at Millington we realize that Jesus died for everyone and that makes everyone special. The bottom line is that we want you to feel welcome here. We don’t care how nice your clothes look or how much you know about the Bible. We care more that you want to know about Jesus.
- We believe the Bible. Without any hesitation we affirm that that Bible is the inspired infallible word of God, and is our rule and guide for our lives. We believe it is important to teach what the Bible says and to have scriptural support for all we do.
- We are a colorblind congregation. The Bible clearly says that God is not a respecter of persons so we should not be either. We are proud that if you visit one of our services you will find people of different races, and different socio-economic backgrounds. What unites us is our love for God and commitment to Him. We believe that everything that unjustly divides people is destroyed through Christ.
- We hold Jesus up as the only way to salvation. Peter said it so clearly in Acts chapter four when he said that salvation was in no other name than Jesus. There are many world religions practiced by many good people, but without the precious blood of Jesus, the Son of God, there is no hope. We believe this not because we are arrogant or mean spirited, but because this is the clear teaching of Scripture.
- We believe in God’s grace. This simplest definition of grace is “unmerited favor.” There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation. It is a gift in its truest form. The Bible teaches that when a person believes that Jesus is in fact who he says he is (John 3:16), repents of his sins (Acts 2:38), confesses Jesus as the Son of God, and is immersed in water as an act of faith then that individual is forgiven of their sins. Baptism is the point at which grace is given, not the point at which grace is earned. For people who have questions about baptism I would suggest that you read the Book of Acts and see what the earliest followers of Jesus did to become Christians.
- We are a place to begin again. Because we believe so strongly in grace we seek to create an atmosphere of forgiveness and new beginnings. There are too many people who stay away from church because of a past they cannot put behind them. Jesus died for sinners, and while he lived on this earth he gave countless people the chance to start over. Maybe you need to start over. Why not make that fresh start here at Millington? We believe that Jesus will take you just as you are, but he will not leave you that way.
- We live to serve. While we do not believe works saves us. We believe what Paul said in Ephesians 2:10 where he says that: “we were created in Christ for good works.” One of the goals of this church is to help each member become an involved member. If you are looking for a church home we would love to have you, but come prepared to work.
- We are children friendly. From our worship service especially for children to a healthy and active youth group we recognize that children must be reached when they are young or there is a good chance they will not be reached at all.
- We care about the poor. A significant part of our budget goes to help those in need. We are concerned that too often the poor of our society are marginalized and neglected. Jesus spent much of his time with the poor and we try to follow his example. From our annual school store to our ongoing assistance to those in need we try to offer concrete help to those who truly are in need.
This is just a short introduction of Millington Church of Christ. We would be honored to have you visit one of our services and if you have any questions at all please feel free to contact us. May God bless you.
